Neet Solved Paper 2013 Question 28

Question: Which of the following is electron deficient?

Options:

A) $ {{(CH _3)}_2} $

B) $ {{(SiH _3)}_2} $

C) $ {{(BH _3)}_2} $

D) $ PH _3 $

Show Answer

Answer:

Correct Answer: C

Solution:

Boron is an element of 13 group and contains three electrons in its valence shell.

When its compound $ BH _3 $ dime rises, each boron atom carry only $ 6{e^{-}}, $

that is their octet is incomplete. Hence, $ {{(BH _3)}_2} $ is an electron deficient compound.

In all other given molecules octet of central atom is complete.
