$ HNO _2+2H _2\text{O }+O _2\xrightarrow{,}4HNO _3 $ $ ~2SO _2+2H _2\text{O }+{O_2}\xrightarrow{,}2H _2SO _4 $

(b) $ NO _2 $ and $ SO _2 $ act as a good reducing agent e.g. $ SO _2 $ reduces halogens to halogen acid $ Cl _2+2H _2O+SO _2\to 2HCl+H _2SO _4 $

(c) $ NO _2 $ and $ SO _2 $ both are soluble in water.

(d) $ SO _2 $ is used in the manufacture of sodium bisulphite ( $ NaHSO _3 $ ) which is used as a preservative for jams, jellies and squashes.
